It was a great privilege to get to know Peter and to spend time in his company. His conversations were invariably wide-ranging, enthusiastic and full of stories from a life lived to the full. His pride in his family was obvious and infectious and we shared so many rewarding moments listening to performances by his highly-talented grandson Tom. I learnt so much from him, particularly about his love of Egyptology and it was always such a pleasure to be welcomed to his home where he and Hilary so obviously enjoyed a shared enthusiasm for all that they did together.
