TIMOTHY 8th October 2020

He always wanted the best for my Brother and me and tried to equip us with all we needed to face the world. I remember when he used to work on his cars. He'd always rope me into it on the pretext of teaching me how to do stuff. Really though, I think it was just to give him some company when out there under the vehicles. I recall him spending many hours helping with my Physics homework, painstakingly walking me through each element of the tasks which I simply couldn't get. It was like teaching a dog to waterski! In the end he'd walked through and answered every question, and when I got to school I always got 10/10. So did all the other kids though. They'd ask: "Has your Dad done your homework again?" because they all wanted to copy my books. The teacher must have thought he had the brightest class! I thought he was a really cool Dad when he brought home a Pirelli calendar for me from his work on the tyre factory, and let me put it on my bedroom wall. Not very PC though nowadays! When I was growing up he gave me one valuable piece of advice. When engaging with the fairer sex he suggested to always let them talk about themselves, enquire how they feel, encourage them to say what's on their minds and they'll think you're one of the most fascinating and interesting people they've ever met. And it's true! He also taught me about investing and gave me many nuggets of valuable advice which set me up and served me well over the years. For me, he did succeed in laying the foundations, which did indeed enable me to face the world!
